Suicide (
noun): The act of taking your own life.
Impetuous (
adj,): Acting or done quickly and without thought or care; impulsive.
Especially
in current times, there seems to be a plethora of factors that can
contribute to people with suicidal potential such as:
- Death of a loved one
- Dependence on drugs or alcohol
- Emotional trauma
- Serious physical illness
- Unemployment or money problems
- Access to guns
- Family member who committed suicide
- History of hurting themselves on purpose
- History of being neglected or abused
- Living in communities where there have been recent outbreaks of suicide in young people
- Romantic breakup (ADAM Medical Encyclopedia)
and these factors all push a person closer to the "edge" where
they may commit suicide. When an individual is close to this edge,
something minor can be enough to push them over, and this often leads to
suicides that could have been prevented. Rarely is it, that a person
plans to kill themselves in a logical or realistic manner, because when
one is over the edge, all it takes is an impulse for them to end their
lives. With the exception of people with mental issues (where suicide is
harder to prevent) most suicides are committed impetuously, that is why
this blog is called "Suicide the Impetuous".
